Man City fans excited by Mbappe claim

Indeed, the Sky Blues have just come off the back of a crucial 1-0 win away to European champions and title rivals Chelsea, with Gabriel Jesus scoring the only goal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Now, it appears that City supporters have more to celebrate as a claim emerges involving Mbappe and Pep Guardiola’s side.

According to reporter Duncan Castles on The Transfer Window Podcast, it is said that the club have now been given a ‘mandate’ to sign the France forward and that they want him at ‘any cost’.

Flocking to this claim, many fans have been left excited by the prospect of signing the 22-year-old, who has scored 163 club career goals so far – check out some of their verdicts below.

Joseph drops Carter-Vickers update

Celtic hold the option to make Cameron Carter-Vickers’ loan deal a permanent switch to Parkhead.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by Anthony Joseph, with the Sky Sports journalist revealing in a post on Twitter that Celtic hold a £6m option-to-buy clause in the Tottenham Hotspur defender’s loan deal.

A previous report by the Daily Record had claimed that, should Ange Postecoglou wish to make the centre-back’s temporary stay at Parkhead a permanent switch, the 56-year-old manager would have to shell out a figure of £10m.

However, in response to a Celtic fan asking for an update on the situation, Joseph issued the following seven-word claim: “The option-to-buy fee is £6m.”

Fans will be delighted

Considering just how impressive Carter-Vickers has been for Celtic since his move to the club this summer, the news that the Bhoys have an option to sign the defender, as well as the fee being considerably lower than the £10m previously reported, will undoubtedly have delighted Hoops fans.

Indeed, over his 11 Premiership appearances so far this season, the £1.8m-rated man has helped his side keep five clean sheets, scored two goals and registered one assist, as well as making an average of 1.3 interceptions, 0.7 tackles, 83.4 passes – the second-highest number of any player in the top flight – and winning 71% of his duels per game.

These returns have seen the £20k-per-week centre-back average a SofaScore match rating of 7.45, ranking him as the fourth-best player in the entire league.

As such, Celtic’s apparent negotiation of an option to buy clause in the 23-year-old’s loan contract could well prove to be something of a masterstroke by Postecoglou and his transfer team, as the Tottenham academy graduate would undoubtedly make a fantastic permanent addition to the 56-year-old’s options in the heart of his Celtic defence.

Furthermore, for a fee of just £6m, the USA international would also appear to be something of a bargain for the Hoops, who, should Carter-Vickers maintain his current level of form over the remainder of the campaign, will certainly consider activating the clause for the defender come next summer.

Tottenham: Sky share big Ginter update

Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has shared some transfer news out of Tottenham Hotspur involving Borussia Monchengladbach star Matthias Ginter.

The Lowdown: Conte makes demands?

The Lilywhites and transfer chief Fabio Paratici, according to reports, are operating under the orders of manager Antonio Conte as the Spurs head coach makes summer window demands behind-the-scenes.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Most recently, it has been claimed that Conte has personally requested the signing of a left-sided centre-half (Calciomercato), as well as Juventus midfielder and USA international Weston McKennie (La Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness).

The former Chelsea manager, it appears, is seeking to re-shape the Spurs squad in his own image whilst gifting his new side the best chance of success for his first full campaign.

Now, as relayed by Thomas, it appears Tottenham and Conte are eyeing a new target in soon-to-be free agent Ginter.

The Latest: Sky reporter makes Ginter claim…

According to Sky sources, Spurs, and by extension their manager, are now eyeing the 28-year-old alongside an array of top clubs.

Ginter has already confirmed his intention to leave Gladbach on a free this summer as his contract nears expiry.

Subsequently, this has alerted Tottenham, alongside the likes of Aston Villa, Juventus and London rivals West Ham.

“Aston Villa among the clubs interested in Matthias Ginter on a free transfer, acc. to Sky Germany,” he explained (via Twitter).

“Separately, I’m aware he has been watched by a lot of top clubs this season including Juventus, Tottenham and West Ham.”

The Verdict: Make a move?

As Conte reportedly earmarks the signing of a central defender as a top summer priority, as backed by The Athletic, there are few better than Ginter on a potential Bosman deal.

Described as an ‘underrated’ player by former Germany boss Joachim Low, the international’s estimated £21.6 million valuation can be totally bypassed this summer – an opportunity Tottenham surely must consider.

According to WhoScored, only Gladbach keeper Yann Sommer has played more league minutes than mainstay Ginter.

The towering 6 foot 3 ace has also managed the second-most clearances per 90 (3) out of their squad in that time, all whilst coming in as Adi Hütter’s fourth-best Bundesliga performer by average match rating (6.83, WhoScored).

An accomplished and proven German top flight ace, we won’t be surprised to see more Spurs reports emerge on Ginter as the summer window nears.

Ange drops David Turnbull injury update

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has dropped an injury update concerning David Turnbull.

What’s the latest?

In recent comments cited by Football Scotland, the Bhoys boss revealed that the midfielder’s hamstring injury picked up in the first half of the League Cup final victory over Hibernian on Sunday came as a result of fatigue, something which is down to the midfielder having started all but one of Celtic’s 34 fixtures so far this season.

Speaking about the 22-year-old’s knock, Postecoglou said: “David suffered from the number of games we are playing at the moment. We are suffering because of that. We have not been able to rotate the squad a lot and that is hurting us at the moment, picking up these injuries. We will just see how he is.”

Fans will be furious

Considering just how important a part of the Celtic side Turnbull has become under the management of Postecoglou, the fact that the midfielder looks set to spend a spell on the sidelines is sure to have left the Parkhead faithful furious.

Indeed, over his 18 Premiership appearances so far this season, the £4.5m-rated man has scored five goals, registered four assists and created seven big chances for his teammates, as well as making an average of a whopping 4.1 key passes – the most of any player in the league – and taking 3.7 shots – the second-most in the division – per game.

These returns have seen the £14k-per-week Scotland international average a rather remarkable SofaScore match rating of 7.87, ranking him as the joint-best performer in the entirety of the top flight.

As such, with several crucial fixtures coming up for the Hoops in the next few weeks, including January’s clash with their Old Firm rivals, the midfielder’s absence is sure to come as a major blow to Postecoglou and his side.

Without Turnbull’s creativity in the middle of the park, Celtic are undoubtedly a far poorer outfit.

Alan Nixon drops West Brom transfer update

Alan Nixon has dropped an update on West Bromwich Albion’s January transfer business.

What’s the talk?

In a recent post on Twitter, The Sun journalist revealed that Valerien Ismael’s side will have to sell at least two players before they can bring in any further additions in the January transfer window.

In response to a fan asking whether there were any potential moves on the horizon for the Baggies, Nixon simply said: “Need a couple out.”

Fans will be furious

While it is true that, following their relegation from the Premier League last season, the club’s budgets will undoubtedly be tighter than at this time last year, the news that Albion are already relying on player sales in order to fund further additions to the club this winter is sure to have left The Hawthorns faithful furious.

Indeed, aside from the £7.77m signing of Daryl Dike earlier this month, West Brom have not spent a penny on incoming transfers since the arrival of Ismael, despite the fact the club sold Matheus Pereira, Ahmed Hegazy and Rekeem Harper for a combined £18.97m last summer.

Furthermore, the Baggies also managed to get both Charlie Austin and Kieran Gibbs off of their books, with the duo having previously been the club’s top two earners – taking home a whopping £70k-per-week and £55k-per-week respectively.

As such, while, as previously stated, West Brom’s purse strings will be understandably tighter this season, it is still somewhat difficult to believe that Ismael could not spend at least the remaining £11.2m he had previously received from player sales last summer.

Indeed, this amount of money spent in the January window would undoubtedly go an extremely long way to helping the Baggies secure an automatic promotion spot come the end of the season – something which would be worth a great deal more to the club in the long run than an £11.2m outlay this month.

Leeds fans react to Will Huffer loan exit

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United confirmed on Friday that goalkeeper Will Huffer has joined National League outfit Barnet on a one-month loan deal.

Huffer came through the youth system at Leeds and made his debut for the Whites in the Championship against Bristol City back in November.

The arrival of Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid (BBC Sport) has pushed the 20-year-old down the pecking order at Elland Road, however, and he will spend the next month with Barnet.

Huffer, who is a former England Under-18 international, had been the understudy to Bailey Peacock-Farrell following Jamal Blackman’s season-ending injury.

However, Peacock-Farrell is now number two to Casilla, meaning that Huffer has left to secure some valuable first-team football at this stage of his career.

The Leeds fans have been reacting to the news on social media and it would be fair to say that they have differing opinions on the one-month loan deal.

Indeed, whilst some believe that it is right for Huffer to gain some first-team football, others are not sure whether it is the correct call considering the club are only another goalkeeping injury away from a potential crisis.

Rangers must axe Morelos vs Brondby

Rangers host Brondby in the Europa League on Thursday night as Steven Gerrard’s men go in search of their first win in the group stage.

The Glasgow side have lost both of their matches in the competition so far, with Lyon and Sparta Prague beating them 2-0 and 1-0 respectively.

They now head into this match against the Danish outfit after drawing 1-1 with Hearts in the Scottish Premiership, keeping their place at the top of the table for now.

One change Gerrard must make to his XI from the draw with Hearts is dropping Alfredo Morelos out of the team for Kemar Roofe. The Colombian forward had a nightmare at the weekend and does not deserve to keep his spot in the side for this match against Brondby.

TalkSport pundit Adrian Durham questioned the forward’s fitness after the result and criticised Rangers for their failure to win the game. He said:

“Ten (shots) on target, Hearts had four. So Rangers were clearly dominant but it ended up 1-1- because, in the stat that matters, Rangers scored one goal and Hearts scored one as well.

“You have to ask about the fitness and form of Alfredo Morelos and where Rangers and Steven Gerrard are at with him.”

In 90 minutes on the pitch, Morelos did not look at his best as he lost seven of his 10 duels and coughed up possession 17 times. This shows that he was not secure enough on the ball or strong enough to hold off opposition players. The most worrying statistic, however, was that he had seven shots and none of them forced a save from the goalkeeper as four went off target and three were blocked.

The £33k-per-week dud has taken 29 shots and scored two goals in the Premiership this term. Kemar Roofe, meanwhile, has scored three goals from 19 shots in the division, with four of his appearances coming as a substitute, suggesting that he has been more effective this season.

Therefore, it could be time for Morelos to be given a rest. Gerrard must drop him to the bench and allow him some time to fully recover ahead of their next Premiership match, whilst giving Roofe an opportunity to show that he can be more clinical in front of goal in comparison to his Colombian teammate.

Rangers set for Leon King contract talks

A major update has emerged on Rangers defender Leon King, amid speculation over his future at the club.

What’s the talk?

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has excitingly claimed that the club are poised to open discussions with the academy product over extended terms at Ibrox.

The reporter has also revealed that Premier League sides Newcastle and Manchester United are keen on his services, with both sides able to pin him to a pre-contract agreement in January if he does not sign a new deal with the Gers.

He Tweeted: “Rangers are planning contract talks with highly-rated youngster Leon King amid interest from Manchester United and Newcastle United.”

Exciting talent

Rangers fans will surely love this transfer update from O’Rourke as it suggests that the club are working hard to ensure King’s future is in Glasgow and not south of the border.

Two teams from the English top-flight are said to be interested and that could be a cause for concern given that his current contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

The Scottish youth international has shown signs of promise in the Gers academy and could be one to watch for the future. He made his Premiership debut for the club earlier this year, at the age of 17, which suggests that Steven Gerrard saw a lot of potential in the young centre-back as he put his faith in him at senior level.

Therefore, it could be a big blow to lose him, particularly on a measly compensation deal, at the end of the campaign. The interest in his services is worrying and that is why fans will love to read this major update on the club’s attempts to keep him.

Supporters will surely be buzzing with Ross Wilson and Gio van Bronckhorst’s plans to pin him down to extended terms. If they can tie him down to a new contract then that could evaporate the clubs circling around his signature and ensure that he is a player who can be utilised further down the line by the Dutch coach.

He could be a player who is part of the long-term plans at Ibrox and could save them money in the future, as he could fill up a first-team spot that would otherwise be occupied by a potentially expensive signing.

Newcastle dealt Callum Wilson setback

A devastating Newcastle United injury setback on striker Callum Wilson has emerged…

What’s the latest?

Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards has revealed that the forward has not been able to recover on schedule after going away with the rest of the squad in Dubai. He has also relayed that Eddie Howe is now changing his plans over the Englishman’s schedule due to this latest setback.

Edwards tweeted: “Bad news on Callum Wilson. Having started running in Dubai his recovery is not progressing as hoped. Howe admitted today plan for him to return is being pushed back.”

Gutted

This news will surely leave Newcastle supporters gutted for multiple reasons.

Firstly, they will be disappointed that they will not be able to see Wilson out on the pitch when they may expected him back. He is a proven Premier League performer and the fans he know is capable of finding the net regularly when given the opportunity, as he has scored 18 top-flight goals since the start of 2020/21.

Therefore, the Toon are currently dealing without his goalscoring prowess at the top end of the pitch and it is a huge blow to the side. Despite not playing a single minute of football in 2022, he remains the club’s top scorer in the league this season, which illustrates his importance to the team.

They will also be gutted with this update because of what it may mean heading into next season. Since joining the Magpies in 2020, Wilson has suffered seven separate injury issues and missed 29 competitive games in less than two full campaigns.

He has been unreliable for the Toon in terms of his availability, and being fit is a player’s most important attribute, given that it allows them to perform on the pitch. Howe will surely not want to go into next season with a first-choice striker who seems likely to miss a number of games because of his propensity to pick up knocks.

This may lead to the club looking to replace him in the summer. PIF and Howe could decide that they want to go for a player with a better injury record in an attempt to nail down that position instead of crossing their fingers and hoping for the best every time Wilson steps foot on the pitch, which is why this is a devastating development for the forward as it could put his future into question.

Supports would be gutted with this because of what he has been able to deliver on the pitch for the club whenever he has been fit. His 18 goals over the past 20 months for the Magpies have been pivotal to helping the side to remain in the Premier League, and fans will surely be upset if injuries continue to curtail his time as the main man at St James’ Park.

Liverpool fans love Harvey Elliott update

Some Liverpool supporters are delighted after Jurgen Klopp provided a positive injury update on the progress of youngster Harvey Elliott.

The 18-year-old is one of the most exciting young players in the country, having arrived at Anfield from Fulham back in 2019.

Elliott was a key player for the Reds at the beginning of the season, starting three Premier League matches and performing well every time, registering seven shots and creating five chances across those starts.

[freshpress-quiz id=“375258″]

Unfortunately, the teenager suffered a broken ankle in the 3-0 win at Leeds United back in September and he has been recovering ever since.

It now looks as though Elliott’s return could be close, however, with Klopp confirming in his pre-Crystal Palace press conference [via James Pearce on Twitter] that he ‘should be ready’ after the upcoming international break.
