Jamie Carragher takes another swipe at Mohamed Salah on social media ahead of Liverpool's Champions League clash with Inter

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has taken a fresh swipe at Mohamed Salah ahead of the team's Champions League clash with Inter at San Siro on Tuesday evening. Salah has been left out of the squad for the game in Milan following his critical comments after Saturday's draw with Leeds, and his future at the club remains in doubt. Carragher has already branded Salah a "disgrace" for his outburst and has now followed that up with a fresh post on social media.

  • Salah in the spotlight amid Liverpool struggles

Salah vented his frustrations at Liverpool after being left out of the starting XI by Arne Slot for the third straight match against Leeds last time out. The 33-year-old Egypt international, who has scored 250 goals in 420 Liverpool appearances, claimed he had been "thrown under the bus" at Anfield and alleged someone at the club wants him out. Salah also claimed his relationship with head coach Slot had broken down. His comments shocked the football world and drew a critical response from Carragher who dubbed Salah a "disgrace" and claimed his comments were designed to "cause maximum damage and strengthen his own position." Slot has responded by admitting he has "no clue" if Salah will play for the club again and subsequently left him out of the squad travelling to Italy for their Champions League match.

  • Carragher takes fresh swipe at Salah

Salah has posted an image on social media on Tuesday of himself training alone in the gym at Liverpool while his team-mates are in Milan preparing for their Champions League match without their talisman. Carragher has reacted to the post by responding: "I'm not sure I've wanted Liverpool to win a game more than tonight for a long time! Come you mighty reds."

  • Will Salah play for Liverpool again?

While Salah will play no part against Inter, it's still not clear if he will feature for the Reds again. Slot's side are in Premier League action on Sunday against Brighton, a fixture which will be Salah's last before he is due to link up with the Egypt squad for the Africa Cup of Nations. The Liverpool boss has been asked if Salah will feature against the Seagulls but was coy in his response. He told : "We are here for the Inter game. And I think you can understand that the last two days were already a lot. A lot of things going on, after conceding in the last minute against Leeds. Not for the first time this season. Then what happened afterwards. So I think you can understand that my full focus is now on Inter Milan, and we will see what the future is."

Slot was quizzed further on the saga with Salah and added only: "No, far from ideal. Not good for anyone. First of all, not for the club, not for the team, not for him as well. So, far from ideal, but, yeah, we reacted in the way we did not to take him here. And that tells you what we felt about his comments."

The drama has brought a fresh wave of speculation about Salah's future, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal reportedly willing to sign the forward in the January transfer window if he does decide to move on from Liverpool.

Liverpool face tough task in Italy

Liverpool must now focus on their clash with Inter and what promises to be tough match against the Serie A giants. The Nerazzurri, who reached last season's Champions League final, head into the game with four wins from their opening five matches in the competition and are also currently sitting in third place in the Serie A table. The Reds were humbled 4-1 last time out in the competition at home to PSV and know another poor result will pile more pressure on Slot during what's fast become a nightmare second season at Anfield for the Dutchman.

'No-one can be underestimated' – Thomas Tuchel insists England's 2026 World Cup draw is 'tough' & claims group stage is 'always the most difficult'

Thomas Tuchel believes England's 2026 World Cup draw is "tough" and claimed that the group stage is "always the most difficult". The German coach, who will lead the Three Lions into a major tournament for the first time next summer, stressed that Group L – featuring Croatia, Ghana and Panama – provides no margin for complacency.

England learn their WC group stage opponents

England discovered their opponents during the draw ceremony in Washington D.C. on Friday, fronted by Rio Ferdinand and featuring sporting icons Tom Brady, Shaquille O'Neal and Wayne Gretzky. What emerged for Tuchel is a trio of opponents carrying very different histories and styles, but each demanding full respect. England’s first assignment will be a rematch with Croatia, the very nation that shattered their World Cup dreams in 2018 in that agonising semi-final defeat in Moscow. Luka Modric and Co. will form the most formidable obstacle in the group, but Tuchel stressed that his focus must go wider than the headline fixture.

AdvertisementGettyWhat did Tuchel make of the WC draw?

Tuchel wants to emerge as group toppers but warned his troops that it will not be an easy task. "We have Croatia and Ghana, two regulars in World Cups, and we have Panama," he explained. "I don’t know much about Panama, but we will know everything about them when the tournament starts. For me personally, even in the Champions League, you have to focus on the group – the group is always the most difficult, and we want to escape, and we want to win the group. It’s a tough one."

"No one should be underestimated," continued Tuchel. "Of course, Croatia is the standout name [and] the highest-ranked team from Pot 2 that we got into our group. It’s a difficult opener against Croatia. We take it from here."

While Ghana may not carry the global star power of Croatia, Tuchel made clear that the country's football heritage cannot be taken for granted. "Ghana is always full of talent and can always surprise, and has a big history in World Cup football," he said. "Also, Panama will try to make the most of the underdog role. No one can be underestimated – everyone deserves the fullest respect, and we will show that."

Group stage is 'always difficult'

Tuchel repeatedly returned to a theme that has defined his career in European competition, insisting the group stage can often be the most mentally demanding part of any tournament.

"For me, I’ve only experienced group football in Champions League formats," said Tuchel. "The way to approach it was always to give the biggest respect and to put all the focus into winning the group. It always seems difficult, like our group now but we’re confident."

England will begin the World Cup later than many others, after they were drawn in Group L, and Tuchel believes that provides both an advantage and a challenge.

"We know now our opponents, we know that we will start late in the tournament which gives us a bit of time," he said. "I know that if you start late in the tournament, the schedule becomes more condensed. The focus will be totally on the group. It’s always a challenge with four ambitious teams together to come out on top. This is where all the energy will go."

Getty/GOALEngland’s projected KO Route: Senegal, Mexico and Spain loom large

If England top Group L, their route through the early knockout rounds is already taking shape. A meeting with Senegal, likely to qualify in third place from Group I, could await in the round of 32. Survival at that stage would set up a daunting round-of-16 showdown against co-hosts Mexico in Mexico City, a high-altitude cauldron that has historically challenged visiting teams. Should England navigate those obstacles, a potential meeting with Brazil in the quarter-final would be a blockbuster fixture. Then they might face Lionel Messi's Argentina in a Dallas semi-final, whereas in the final, they would probably lock horns against Spain, if La Roja make it to the World Cup final.

Kyle Schwarber Shared Cool Moment With Phillies Fans After Recording 1,000th Career Hit

Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber recorded the 1,000th hit of his career on a classic "Schwarbomb" home run against the New York Yankees. Though Schwarber was unable to reach this milestone in front of the Phillies home crowd, the home run was caught by a Phillies fan in attendance at Yankee Stadium.

After the Phillies' 12-5 win, Schwarber met up with the fan that caught the home run ball and his two friends. Schwarber traded two signed baseballs to get the milestone baseball back, and even offered to sign a third ball for the trio. However, they declined, replying that they simply just want Schwarber to re-sign with the Phillies, per Scott Lauber of .

"It's been fantastic these last three and a half, four years now, the support that we get from our fans," Schwarber told reporters. "Means a lot to me that they attach themselves onto our team, myself, whatever it is. We can feel that support, always appreciate it."

Schwarber, who is in the middle of his fourth season with the Phillies, will have his contract with Philadelphia expire following the 2025 campaign. He signed a four-year deal for $79 million with the Phillies in 2022, and is in the middle of another tremendous year for Philadelphia. He has hit 36 home runs and 82 RBI with a .960 OPS this season, ranking top-10 in all of MLB in all three categories.

The fans are not the only ones interested in getting Schwarber extended with Philadelphia. Phillies managing partner John Middleton expressed earlier this week that the team wants to get a new deal done with Schwarber, vi. Though the two sides were unable to agree on a new contract before the season, re-signing Schwarber will likely be a priority heading into the offseason.

Mics Picked Up Spencer Strider's Dismissive Message to Juan Soto After Strikeout

The SNY television mics continue to be a gift to baseball fans.

During the bottom of the fifth inning of the Atlanta Braves' 7-4 win over the New York Mets on Tuesday night, the station's mics picked up an interaction between Braves pitcher Spencer Strider and Mets star slugger Juan Soto, the latter of whom didn't like the umpire's call on a strikeout looking.

Soto, after walking in each of his first two at-bats against Strider, worked the count full in his third trip to the batter's box against the Braves ace. Strider then delivered a four-seam fastball on the lower inside corner of the plate, a pitch that home-plate umpire Adam Hamari called strike three.

Soto, started heading up the first-base line thinking it was ball four, then hopped in the air in frustration as he headed towards Hamari to express his displeasure with the call.

As he did so, Strider let Soto know what he thought of the call.

"It's right down the middle," Strider said three times to Soto.

The pitch was not an obvious third strike, but did appear to catch the outside part of the plate. Plus, Hamari earned the benefit of the doubt with his performance on Tuesday night, as Umpire Scorecards gave him a 96% accuracy rating for the contest.

For Soto and the Mets, the frustration goes beyond just the disagreement with an umpire's call. The club has dropped nine of its last 10 games and fallen out of first place in the National League East in a worrisome stretch of play. Meanwhile, Atlanta, after an abysmal start to the season, is now just four games under .500 and 7-3 in its last 10 contests.

Phillies Share Awesome All-Star Hype Video for Their Legendary Bat Boy

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game is just over a week away with the full rosters for the Midsummer Classic revealed over the holiday weekend.

This means the various hype videos all 30 teams released to advocate for fans to vote for their players will now rest in the social media archives forevermore. However, there are still votes left to be cast—and the Philadelphia Phillies dropped one more hype video to rally their fans.

Over the weekend, MLB announced the finalists for the 2025 All-Star Ball Crew. Two ball boys or girls will be selected to participate in the All-Star festivities at Truist Park next week, with fans casting the deciding votes between the four candidates. One of the candidates is Philly bat boy Adam Crognale, a favorite of the Phillies community.

In his honor, the team released an awesome hype video for Crognale to advocate for his spot in the All-Star Game. It rules.

Crognale was nominated for the first play of the above montage, but as you can see, he has a few more highlights too. In addition, he does great work in the community; Crognale is a lymphoma survivor and was nominated for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Visionary of the Year award in 2024.

The next few days will reveal if the Phillies inspired the fans of Philadelphia enough to get Crognale his flowers.

Mariners' Bryan Woo Was All Class After Losing No-Hit Bid Late vs. Yankees

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Bryan Woo carried a no hitter into the eighth inning of Thursday's game against the New York Yankees before it was broken up on a single by Jazz Chisholm Jr. that snuck through the right side of the infield.

It was certainly a painful way to lose a no hitter, but Woo was a good sport about it and walked over to first base to give Chisholm a quick pat on the backside in what was quick and respectful gesture.

It was a classy move from Woo, who was likely fighting back some frustrations as he went over to acknowledge Chisholm on first base.

Woo was dominant on the mound throughout the night, but Chisholm found a way to get on base, and he would later come around to score to get the Yankees on the board for the first time all game. After trailing 5–0 and not having a single hit heading into the bottom of the eighth, New York staged a miracle comeback to win in extra innings, 6–5.

Woo ended his night with five strikeouts, two walks and two earned runs across 7 1/3 innings. He improved his season ERA to 2.75, eighth best in the American League.

Man Utd's top striker target blows Messi and Ronaldo record out of the water

Top Manchester United target Harry Kane has now surpassed both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi by setting an “incredible” new record.

Man Utd identify Kane as key transfer target

Last week, it emerged that Kane has been identified as a key transfer target for Man United, despite the signing of Benjamin Sesko in the summer, with Ruben Amorim’s side set to do battle with Tottenham Hotspur for his signature.

It is revealed the striker would only be interested in a move to Old Trafford if United are able to improve their current league standing, and Amorim will be hoping his side can now kick on after the surprise 2-1 victory against Liverpool at Anfield last Sunday.

The former Tottenham man is just 48 goals away from breaking Alan Shearer’s record as the all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League, which suggests a return to England could be tempting.

That said, Bayern will undoubtedly want to keep hold of their talisman, who is currently under contract until 2027, and it was recently widely reported that he is open to extending his stay at the Allianz Arena.

The Tottenham legend, who is regarded as one of the best strikers in the world, is arguably in the form of his life at the moment, having recently surpassed both Ronaldo and Messi by setting an “incredible” new goalscoring record.

As revealed by Opta, the Bayern star has now reached the 20-goal mark in all competitions in just 12 games for the Bundesliga side this season, eclipsing two players widely regarded as being the greatest of all time.

Kane will be key to England's chances of World Cup glory

The 32-year-old is clearly showing no signs of slowing down, given his goalscoring exploits this season, having already found the back of the net 12 times in the Bundesliga, which means at his current rate he could break the league record of 41 set by Robert Lewandowski.

Man Utd ready to join race for "unbelievable" £75m CM amid interest in Bruno

The Red Devils are looking to sign a new midfielder, with Bruno Fernandes attracting interest from elsewhere.

Given his age, the 2026 World Cup may be the Englishman’s last chance to lead his side to glory, but if he continues his current form, the Three Lions certainly have a fighting chance.

It would be a real coup if Man United were able to sign Kane, but in truth it seems very unlikely, given that a player of his quality needs to be competing for league titles on a regular basis.

West Ham think signing £105k-a-week Man United player would be perfect for Nuno

West Ham chiefs are apparently convinced that one Man United player is the ideal signing for new manager Nuno Espírito Santo, coming amid reports that David Sullivan and the hierarchy are set to back him in January.

West Ham make January recruitment plans after Nuno arrival

The Portuguese oversaw his second Premier League game in charge of the East Londoners last Saturday, culminating in a 2-0 defeat away to title-chasing Arsenal.

Goals from ex-West Ham captain Declan Rice, who was the best player on the pitch, and Bukayo Saka handed Nuno his first loss since taking over from Graham Potter over a fortnight ago.

Rice’s man of the match performance was only overshadowed by Saka reaching impressive milestones, with the England international marking his 200th Premier League appearance by reaching a century of goal involvements for the Gunners.

The 90 minutes went exactly how on-lookers would expect, as Arsenal enjoyed a whopping 68 per cent possession and dominated the overall play.

Sunderland 3-0 West Ham

West Ham 1-5 Chelsea

Nottingham Forest 0-3 West Ham

West Ham 0-3 Tottenham

West Ham 1-2 Crystal Palace

Everton 1-1 West Ham

Arsenal 2-0 West Ham

Despite West Ham winning two of their previous two league games at the Emirates, it was always going to be a very tough ask for Nuno to secure his first win there, but the tactician will already be getting a good idea of the areas that West Ham need to improve in.

As Nuno attempts to galvanise his new side, away from the pitch, it is believed that West Ham want to sign a new attacking player in January to inject some needed creativity in the forward areas.

AC Milan star Christian Pulisic, Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini and Galatasaray forward Baris Yilmaz have all been mentioned as potential West Ham targets for the winter window, and they’ve also got a keen interest in £105,000-per-week Man United striker Joshua Zirkzee.

West Ham think Joshua Zirkzee is perfect for Nuno

According to reports in Spain, West Ham believe that Zirkzee would “fit perfectly” into Nuno’s system, with the London Stadium now seen as a realistic destination for the Dutchman who’s had admirers at the club “for months”.

Zirkzee is yet to get off the mark for Ruben Amorim’s side after being in and out of the Portuguese’s starting elevens so far, playing just 74 top flight minutes so far, and West Ham could offer him an escape route from Old Trafford.

Since joining from Bologna, the 24-year-old has racked up 10 goal contributions (seven goals, three assists) in just over half a century of appearances for the Red Devils, but the arrivals of summer signings Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha now threaten his place long-term.

By contrast, Nuno could seriously use an alternative to injury-prone striking duo Callum Wilson and Niclas Füllkrug, with Zirkzee’s previous Serie A exploits highlighting how he would really upgrade West Ham’s options.

This is echoed by United legend Lee Sharpe, who backed Zirkzee to become a “superstar” this season.
